Flower Preservation Lab Results
This project allows for total student experiment design and control. Students research various home remedies, flower preservation methods, floral industry preservative functions and goals. Next students learn various methods for proper conditioning of flowers along with processing tools and methods. Student work in groups to write a hypotheses to be tested, design a preservative solution, a project procedure with a materials list, and learn how the processes of photosynthesis impact flower deterioration. Then the actual preservative solution assembly begins. Finally, students mark and label their test solution, compare control group and their fellow classmate solutions and collect data over the course of 2-4 weeks. This project serves as the Agriscience experience as defined by the Supervised Agriculture Education in theaet.com and can be used as Proficiency award area.
